Job title: Lead Engineer – Electrical

Location: Biggleswade

Salary: Competitive

Hours: 40 hours per Week

Benefits: X 1.5 Overtime, On Call payment of £150 p/week, Single BUPA PMI cover and Health Cash Plan & 5% pension

On call Requirement: 1 in every 5 weeks

We are advertising this Lead Electrician role on behalf of our client ‘CBES. City were established in 1985 and the company has grown to become one of the world’s largest privately held, integrated FM companies.

Job Purpose:

  • To maintain and repair a range of electrical, mechanical plant and equipment including all building services as defined on the “Scope of Works” in an efficient and cost-effective manner, whilst complying with the laid-down Company Health and Safety policy.
  • To carry out management duties as detailed in the principal accountabilities.
  • To provide on-site coaching to the Technicians and other engineers within your team

Key Accountabilities:

Engineering & Compliance

  • To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the DMT when required
  • To provide on call cover to multiple sites and be part of the on-call rota
  • To provide technical support to the DMT
  • To ensure under performance on KPI’s are understood within the teams and action plans are in place to improve performance
  • Ensure that all costs are approved following the correct company procedures
  • To check the quality of PPM’s conducted by the DMT’s and DMA’s during site visits

Management

  • To support the Hard Services Manager on technical, organisational and people issues
  • To provide cover for the Hard Services Manager during times of absence, holidays and meetings.
  • To carry out specified depot programme both reviews on quality and Health & Safety and take action on non-compliances
  • To complete specified reports and take action on any issues raised
  • To audit FM documentation and take action on any non-compliances
  • To deal promptly with all Help Desk calls and ensure that the issues are resolved effectively, escalating where necessary to the appropriate management level in City and Co-op
  • To attend Depot Project, Trial, Pre-start meetings when appropriate, ensuring adequate support from others on specialist issues.
  • To attend meetings in the absence of the Hard Services Manager
  • To regularly communicate with the Co-op depot team on all FM activity.
  • To complete and monitor all necessary reports on the performance of team members, and take action on unsatisfactory performance.
  • To be fully aware of the Company’s People procedures and use them to deal with People related issues up to the specified level.
  • To participate in the recruitment and selection process of FM engineering colleagues
  • To assist the Hard Services Manager when requested
  • To liaise with the Co-op team on any key issues that impact on trade.

Training & Coaching

  • To attend formal training courses, with the aim of delivering training on to others within your team.
  • Ensure that new starters have conducted all relevant training required before starting their on-call duties 
  • To work with the Technical Training Team and Managers to identify the training and coaching needs of new and existing engineers.
  • To report to the Hard Services Manager on coaching activities, training issues raised, training opportunities identified and recommendations for new approaches as part of continual improvement
  • To assist in the review of technical training content ensuring that it is accurate, up to date with technology and always relevant to the skill levels defined for the business
  • To follow the administration procedures of the training function to ensure that the correct facilities, equipment and materials are available for coaching sessions, and on completion all relevant paperwork is completed accurately.
  • To provide accurate feedback on skill and knowledge gaps identified during coaching sessions or regional meetings and to recommend corrective action.
  • To comply with all health and safety legislation and processes.
  • To carry out other reasonable duties requested by the company

Qualifications & Experience:

  • City & Guilds/NVQ Level 3 Electrical or Mechanical Installation (or equivalent)- essential
  • City & Guilds 2391 (Testing & Inspection)- essential
  • BS7671:2018 – Wiring Regulations 18th Edition- essential
  • CITB SSSTS (or equivalent)- essential
  • Proven track record of supervising a team within an electrical maintenance environment.
  • Previous experience of managing/prioritising a varied/demanding workload.
  • Minimum 3 years’ previous experience of operating within a large-scale distribution site
  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) and ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with the client.
  • Proficient with MS Office.
  • Knowledge of CAFM software and experience of Verisae.
